Real-Time Tracking of Articulated Human Models Using a 3D Shape-from-Silhouette Method

چکیده
This paper describes a system which acquires 3D data and uses the data to track an eleven degree of freedom human model in real-time. Using four cameras we create a time-varying volumetric image (a visual hull) of whatever object is moving in the space observed by all four cameras. We are currently operating the sensor in a volume of approximately 500,000 voxels (1.5 inch cubes) at a rate of 25 Hz. We are able to track the upper body dynamics of a human within the workspace. The system is able to track the x, y position of the body, a torso rotation about the z axis, along with four rotations in each arm. Tracking occurs using a method we developed to be extremely fas~ which allows both data acquisition and tracking to occur on one computer at a rate of 16 Hz. We also developed a calibration procedure, which allows the system to be reconfigured or even moved and to quickly be recalibrated. Furthermore the system utilizes another computer to visualize either the voxel data overlaid with the joint locations or to view a human avatar, both of which are driven in real-time. Lastly our system has been implemented to perform crane gesture recognition, and has been linked with a large robotic arm to simulate crane movements. Corresponding author Jason Luck Dept. Real-time articulated human body tracking using silhouette information
In this paper we describe a system for visual tracking of the limbs of a human body. The system uses a 3D computer graphics model of the human figure and optimizes its parameters to fit the person’s silhouette in one or more camera views. The system incorporates joint angle constraints and a novel method for dealing with ambiguous edges. The system operates in realtime on multiple views and has...
متن کامل3D Body Reconstruction for Immersive Interaction
In this paper we present an approach for capturing 3D body motion and inferring human body posture from detected silhouettes. We show that the integration of two or more silhouettes allows us to perform a 3D body reconstruction while each silhouette can be used for identifying human body postures. The 3D reconstruction is based on the representation of body parts using Generalized Cylinders pro...
متن کاملShape-From-Silhouette of Articulated Objects and its Use for Human Body Kinematics Estimation and Motion Capture
Shape-From-Silhouette (SFS), also known as Visual Hull (VH) construction, is a popular 3D reconstruction method which estimates the shape of an object from multiple silhouette images. The original SFS formulation assumes that all of the silhouette images are captured either at the same time or while the object is static. This assumption is violated when the object moves or changes shape. Hence ...

We propose an efficient real-time method for markerless 3D human motion capture that requires a single computer. Using input from at least three calibrated webcams, an extended ”Shape from Silhouette” algorithm reconstructs the filmed person in real-time. Fasts 3D shape and 3D skin parts analysis provide a robust and real-time system for human full-body tracking. Animation skeleton and simple m...
